Bagby STEAM Fair 2020

April 22, 2020

What:   STEAM Fair is a fun filled event where students will showcase their projects                   and all families can participate in hands-on STEAM activities

Who:    All Bagby students who wish to participate (grades TK-5th)

When:  Wednesday, April 22, 6:30-8:00pm

Where: Bagby Barracuda Tank

Use your scientific, design, and engineering skills to create a project for the STEAM Fair!  STEAM, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math, provides students the opportunity to develop their critical thinking and problem solving skills through projects that encourage them to design, explore, question, build, and create.  Look around you, be curious, and think about what questions you would like to answer or problems you would like to solve for your project.  Remember, it should be fun!

Students can choose between two types of projects:

Science Project

A science project is an investigation that uses the scientific methodology (which includes experimenting) to answer a question.

   Some examples:

  • Why does food change color when you cook them?
  • Does washing your hands really get rid of germs?
  • Does a skinned knee heal faster when it's covered with a bandage or left alone?

Engineering/Design Project

An engineering/design project is an invention or original design that serves a purpose and solves a real problem. It can also be something that improves an object previously invented by someone else or takes it in a completely different direction.

   Some examples:

  • Design and build a wind powered vehicle and see how far it can travel
  • Design and build a catapult to see how far it can launch  marshmallows
  • How can we keep the floor near the sink dry so people don't slip?
